Dr. Jean Challiner

I am a GMC Registered doctor and Executive Coach with significant experience in Primary Care, A&E and healthcare technology. I promote value based healthcare which delivers meaningful and sustainable patient outcomes. Valuing and developing staff and making best use of existing and emerging technologies are, for me, key elements to achieving this.

I have worked in high pressure environments at Clinical and Executive Clinical Director levels within the NHS and in commercial organisations since 2002, helping organisations across the world transform their clinical services.

During my career, I have worked with leaders good and bad and met many professional and personal challenges. I understand first hand the career decisions, work life balance dilemmas and emotional decisions that clinicians and managers in healthcare face on a daily basis, especially when asked to deliver “more for less”. Coaching helped me maintain a positive approach, focus on what mattered, reduce stress and to be a leader, making decisions aligned to my core values. I have helped others, through coaching, achieve the same. I have personally experienced the power of coaching, and turned my own career around at a time when I felt I was drowning in work.

I am now Director of my own Coaching and Consultancy company, Aspirations Consulting Ltd. Having coached patients for most of my career, I turned my attention to coaching colleagues and others since 2007. I have coached, and am coaching, individuals at all stages of their careers from graduates to CEOs.

I work within the boundaries agreed with each individual and with as much challenge as each is comfortable with. We have some lightbulb moments and  also have some fun!

Through an appreciative approach, I help my coachees become more self aware enabling them to identify and apply their strengths and leadership style and to challenge self limiting beliefs which hold them or their teams back.

Individuals have become increasingly aware of coaching in the past few years and uptake is on the increase. I firmly believe that Systemic Team Coaching can add even more value as it unlocks potential even greater than the sum of all the individual parts. Recognising the current views of our staff and stakeholders, getting the ‘unsaid’ out on the table, developing leaders and co-creating meaningful solutions will facilitate change and change process.

Developing an emotionally intelligent management style, valuing people, reflecting on what we have done and learning for the future is embedded within this approach- as is celebrating success! Aspirations Consulting can help you do all of that.

I work within the EMCC code of ethics, the principles of which are aligned to the high standards of the Hippocratic Oath and GMC standards. Confidentiality, conflict of interest and professional boundaries are discussed with each organisation and with each coachee individually as part of the contracting process.  

I am passionate about using my coaching skills to help others realise their true potential and to help organisations grow and deliver better outcomes.
